Rosen, Samuel
Born Apr. 10, 1897, in Syracuse, N. Y. American otorhinolaryngologist. Member of the New York Academy of Medicine (1923), the American Medical Association (1924), and the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology (1955). In 1921, Rosen graduated from the Syracuse College of Medicine. In 1960 he became a professor at Columbia University. His principal works are on the problems of the surgical treatment of otosclerosis. Rosen discovered surgical methods for stapes mobilization in cases of otosclerosis. A number of Rosen’s works deal with the increased incidence of early hardness of hearing among the populations of various continents. Rosen is a foreign member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR (1966) and a member and honorary member of many American and international academies and scientific societies. He was awarded the N. I. Pirogov Medal of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR in 1965.
