Ross, Douglas Taylor (1929– ) software executive; born in Canton, China (of American parents). While head of the Computer Applications Group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1952–69), he created the language APT, used in numerically controlled manufacturing. He taught the first course in software engineering (1968) and worked on computer graphics, and computer-aided design (CAD). He founded SofTech (1969). How to thank TFD for its existence?
