Ross, Edmund Gibson (1826–1907) U.S. senator, journalist; born in Ashland, Ohio. A newspaper editor-publisher, and framer of the Kansas constitution, he was appointed to the U.S. Senate (Rep., Kans.; 1866–71). He voted against convicting President Andrew Johnson after deciding the trial was not fair. Politically and socially in disgrace as a result, he returned to practice journalism in Kansas, then moved to New Mexico, where he was appointed territorial governor (1885–89).
