Rostislav Iankovskii

Iankovskii, Rostislav Ivanovich 

Born Feb. 5, 1930, in Odessa. Soviet Russian actor. People’s Artist of the USSR (1978).

Iankovskii graduated from the theatrical studio in Leninabad in 1951. He performed at the Leninabad Theater until 1957, when he joined the company of the M. Gorky Minsk Russian Drama Theater. His roles have included Florian Gaishun in Return to Khatyn’ (based on the novella by Adamovich), Aleksei in Vishnevskii’s An Optimistic Tragedy, Nagul’nov in an adaptation of Sholokhov’s Virgin Soil Upturned, and Iarovoi in Trenev’s Liubov’ Iarovaia. He has also appeared as Cheshkov in Dvoretskii’s A Man From the Side, Arbenin in Lermontov’s Masquerade, and Macbeth and Antony in Shakespeare’s Macbeth and Antony and Cleopatra, respectively.

Iankovskii has been awarded two orders.
