Rostra
in ancient Rome, an orator’s tribune at the forum, decorated with the prows of enemy ships seized by the Romans at Anzio in 338 B.C. during the second Latin war (340–338 B. C.). The rostra was restored under Augustus and decorated with the prows of ships of the Egyptian queen Cleopatra VII following the defeat of her fleet in the battle of Actium (31 B.C.).
