Rougé, Emmanuel, vicomte de (ĕmänüĕl` vēkôNt` də r
zhā`), 1811–72, French Egyptologist. Rougé was curator of the Egyptian section of the Louvre and professor of Egyptology at the Collège de France. He and Lepsius Lepsius, Karl Richard , 1810–84, German Egyptologist and philologist. He made an expedition (1842–45) to the Nile valley and the Sudan and as a result of his excavations and studies wrote Denkmäler aus Ägypten und Äthiopien..... Click the link for more information. produced a consistent system for the interpretation of discoveries, and he worked out fundamental principles for studying Egyptian texts.
