Rougemont, Denis de (dənē` də r zhmôN`), 1906–85, French philosopher and critic, b. Switzerland. He moved to Paris in 1936 and published numerous articles on existentialism existentialism (ĕgzĭstĕn`shəlĭzəm, ĕksĭ–)..... From 1940 to 1947, Rougemont lectured in the United States, where he wrote La Part du diable [The devil's portion] (1944), about the European crisis of conscience.
