Rowan, Andrew Summers (rou`ən), 1857–1943, American army officer, b. Monroe co., Va. (now W.Va.). At the outbreak (1898) of the Spanish-American War he was sent to communicate with the Cuban revolutionary leader General García y Iñigues García y Iñigues, Calixto , 1839–98, Cuban revolutionist, a leader in the Ten Years War (1868–78). Captured and imprisoned until 1878, he entered upon revolutionary activities immediately after his release and was again arrested.
