Rowland, Benjamin, Jr. (1904–72) art historian, artist; born in Overbrook, Pa. He earned a Ph.D. at Harvard, where he taught for more than 40 years. An authority on the art of ancient India, medieval Italy, and modern America, he wrote books including Art and Architecture of India (1953, revised several times) and The Classical Tradition in Western Art (1963).
