Royster, Vermont (Connecticut)(born April 30, 1914, Raleigh, N.C., U.S.—died July 22, 1996, Raleigh) U.S. journalist. Royster joined The Wall Street Journal as a Washington correspondent in 1936. After serving in the navy during World War II he returned to the Journal, becoming editor (1958–71) and senior vice president (1960–71) of its publishing company, Dow Jones & Co., before retiring in 1971. As editor emeritus, he wrote a weekly column, “Thinking Things Over” until 1986. He was awarded two Pulitzer Prizes (1953, 1984) and the Presidential Medal of Freedom (1986).
