Baglanova, Roza Tazhibaevna 

Born Jan. 1, 1922, in Kazalinsk, in Kzyl-Orda Oblast. Soviet Kazakh singer (soprano). People’s Artist of the USSR (1967). Member of the CPSU since 1962.

Baglanova studied at the Kzyl-Orda Pedagogical Institute from 1939 to 1941. From 1941 to 1947 she was a soloist with the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Uzbek Philharmonic; from 1947 to 1949, with the Kazakh Theater of Opera and Ballet; from 1949 to 1960, with the Kazakh Philharmonic; and after 1960, with the Kazakh Concert. She performs folk songs (Russian, Kazakh, Uzbek, Tatar, Mongolian, Korean, and others) and Soviet show songs. Beginning in 1949, she toured abroad, visiting Poland, the German Democratic Republic, Belgium, Hungary, Austria, Czechoslovakia, the Chinese People’s Republic, the Korean People’s Democratic Republic, India, Burma, Canada, and other countries. She has been awarded the Order of Lenin and medals.
