Rozanova, Mariia Aleksandrovna 

Born Aug. 5 (17), 1885, in Moscow; died Oct. 27, 1957, in Leningrad. Soviet botanist.

Rozanova graduated from the Bestuzhev Higher Women’s Courses and passed the state examinations at the University of Petrograd in 1916. She taught at the university until 1944 (professor, from 1933). Rozanova headed the section on berry culture at the All-Union Institute of Horticulture from 1925 to 1940, where she was a close associate of N. I. Vavilov. From 1944 to 1950 she was a senior researcher at the Main Botanical Garden of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Rozanova initiated research in plant biosystematics in the USSR. She also wrote the world’s first general work on plant biosystematics (Modern Methods of Plant Systematics, 1930).
