Rudge, William Edwin (1876–1931) printer, publisher, typographer; born in Brooklyn, N.Y. Going to work at age 13 at his father's printing plant, he inherited the business as a young man, and, encouraged by associates at the newly formed American Institute of Graphic Arts, devoted himself to producing fine, beautifully illustrated works, with the aid of such designers such as Frederic Goudy and W. A. Dwiggins. He assembled an excellent library of graphic arts books and specimens of fine printed works.
