Rudnitskii, Nikolai Vasilevich

Rudnitskii, Nikolai Vasil’evich 

Born June 22 (July 4), 1877, in the city of Iaransk, in what is now Kirov Oblast; died Oct. 14, 1953, in the city of Kirov. Soviet plant breeder. Academician of the V. I. Lenin All-Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences (1935). Member of the CPSU from 1937.

Rudnitskii graduated from the University of Kazan in 1902 and the Moscow Agricultural Institute (now the K. A. Timiriazev Moscow Agricultural Academy) in 1910. From 1948 to 1953 he was both a professor at the Kirov Agricultural Institute and director of the Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture of the Northeast.

Rudnitskii published works on the development of new varieties of agricultural crops, for example, rye, barley, and potatoes. He developed valuable varieties of winter rye (Viatka) and winter wheat (Liutestsens 116).

Rudnitskii received the State Prize of the USSR in 1947. He was awarded two orders of Lenin, two other orders, and various medals.
