Ruzskii, Nikolai Vladimirovich
Born Mar. 6(18), 1854; died Oct. 19, 1918, in Piatigorsk. Russian general of the infantry (1909). Ruzskii graduated from the Konstantin Military School in 1872 and the Academy of the General Staff in 1881. During the Russo-Japanese War of 1904–05 he served for a short time as chief of staff of the Second Manchurian Army and then commanded a corps from 1906 to 1909. In 1909 he became a member of the Military Council of the Ministry of War and worked on the development of regulations, including the Field Service Regulations of 1912. At the beginning of World War I he commanded the Third Army, from September 1914 until March 1915 the Northwestern Front, in July-August 1915 the Sixth Army, and from August 1915 until April 1917 the Northern Front (with an interruption from December 1915 until August 1916).
