Ryklin, Grigorii Efimovich
Born Feb. 2(14), 1894, in the village of Litovsk, in what is now Briansk Oblast; died Mar. 6, 1975, in Moscow. Soviet Russian writer. Member of the CPSU since 1920. Ryklin published his first works in 1918. He worked on the editorial staffs of the newspapers Izvestiia and Pravda. He also worked for the magazine Krokodil, serving as editor from 1938 to 1948. He wrote several collections of topical satires in which he ridiculed bureaucrats, gossips, and timeservers. They include A Watchtower on Profit-and-Loss Accounting (1927), A Certified True Copy (1929), To Deal a Blow (1948), Known Faces All Too Human (1958), and Pleasant and Unpleasant Encounters (1961). He also published collections of short stories, memoirs, and humorous sketches. Ryklin’s satirical works are characterized by a lively, colorful style and topicality.
