Rykov, Pavel

Rykov, Pavel Sergeevich 

Born Oct. 7 (19), 1884, in Moscow; died Mar. 26, 1942. Soviet archaeologist. Member of the CPSU from 1930.

Rykov became a professor at the University of Saratov in 1922 and director of the Saratov Oblast Museum of Local Lore in 1923. He studied Sarmatian kurgans along the lower Volga and medieval Mordovian burial grounds. In 1936, Rykov published Essays on the History of the Lower Volga Region According to Archaeological Materials.
