the title of the sword-bearer-bodyguard of the Russian grand prince and tsar in the 16th and 17th centuries.

The ryndy accompanied the monarch in campaigns and on journeys. During court ceremonies, ryndy stood in uniform at both sides of the throne bearing poleaxes on their shoulders. The function was usually conferred upon young members of the aristocracy. It was abolished in 1698.
