SCSI initiator

(hardware)SCSI initiator - A device that begins a SCSI transaction by issuing a command to another device (the SCSI target), giving it a task to perform. Typically a SCSI host adapter is the initiator but targets may also become initiators.

For this method to be widely adopted, it must provide protection information enabled SCSI target devices the ability to work with both legacy SCSI initiator devices and protection information enabled SCSI initiator devices.
SCSI Initiator, raw SCSI, file system, and IP protocol support are provided for selected operating systems.
Host Bus Adapter (HBA) and SCSI initiators have the same basic functionality.
