Senta (sĕn`tä), Hung. Zenta, city (1991 pop. 28,779), in the Vojvodina region of Serbia, on the Tisza River. A river port and an agricultural center, it has a variety of light industries. At Senta in 1697, Prince Eugene of Savoy won a decisive victory over the Turks, who as a result of the defeat had to accept (1699) the Treaty of Passarowitz Passarowitz, Treaty of , 1718, peace treaty signed at Požarevac (Ger. Passarowitz), E Serbia. It was concluded between the Ottoman Empire (Turkey) on the one side and Austria and Venice on the other.

Population, 25,000 (1971). Senta has a wharf on the Tisa River. Industry includes food processing, especially flour milling, and woodworking. Cotton, hemp, and bricks are produced.
