Sieg
a river in the western part of the Federal Republic of Germany, a right tributary of the Rhine River. Length, 131 km; basin area, 3,300 sq km. It flows in a winding valley between the Westerwald and Sauerland regions. The Sieg flows into the Rhine below the city of Bonn. The river floods in the spring, and the lowest water level is in the summer. The river is navigable in its lower reaches. The cities of Siegen and Siegburg are located on the Sieg River.
