SIGTRAN |
Also found in: Acronyms, Wikipedia | 0.02 sec. |
SIGTRAN(SIGnaling TRANsport) An IP telephony protocol from the IETF that is used to transfer SS7 signals over IP networks. The telco switch sends SS7 signals to a signaling gateway (SG) that converts them into SIGTRAN packets, which travel over IP to the next signaling gateway or to a softswitch if the destination is not another PSTN. SIGTRAN uses the Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) for reliable transport. See IP telephony and SCTP. How to thank TFD for its existence? The signaling gateway is a key network node that provides SS7 to SIGTRAN signaling interworking and enables seamless integration of legacy SS7 signaling based networks into the emerging all IP network. NYSE:A) today announced the most comprehensive solutions for monitoring and troubleshooting new complex SIGTRAN networks. SigDiA enables ATCA, PCI, cPCI, signaling servers and signaling gateways, in large scale distributed systems (up to a 1000 servers or blades) running Linux, Windows and Solaris, with a complete range of SIGTRAN and SS7 protocols, to connect to wireless networks. |
