Sokol 

a city under oblast jurisdiction and administrative center of Sokol Raion, Vologda Oblast, RSFSR. Landing on the Sukhona River; railroad station (Sukhona) on the Vologda-Konosha line. Located 35 km north of Vologda. Population, 47,800 (1975). The city is the site of the Sokol and Sukhona pulp and paper combines. It also has a combine for the production of lumber and wood products, a dairy products cannery, a furniture-crate combine, a plant for the production of ceramic drainage pipes, and a machine repair plant. Educational institutions include a technicum of pulp and paper technology and a pedagogical school.

an urban-type settlement in Dolinsk Raion, Sakhalin Oblast, RSFSR. Sokol has a railroad station 12 km south of the city of Dolinsk. It has a fish hatchery, where the young fry of pink and chum salmon are bred, an enterprise for the production of reinforced-concrete products, and a milk and vegetable sovkhoz.
