| The use and effect of "spoofed" RST (Reset) and SYN packets on the TCP/IP Internet communications protocol was detailed today in NISCC Vulnerability Advisory #236929 and in a U. This is one of the strengths that has helped over the years with problems like the Morris worm in 1988, SYN packet attacks in 1996, and so on. This creates a half-open state where the target system has received the SYN packet but the SYN_ACK has gone unacknowledged by the attacking system(s). |
