Sabah al-Salim al-Sabah 

Born 1913 in Kuwait City; died there Dec. 31, 1977. State figure of Kuwait.

Sabah was a member of the Sabah dynasty, which has ruled in Kuwait since the mid-18th century. From 1938 to 1959 he was head of Kuwait’s police department. From 1955 to 1961 he was a member of the Supreme Council of the Principality. In 1962 he was designated heir apparent. From 1961 to 1963 he was deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs. From 1963 to 1965 he was prime minister. In November 1965, Sabah became emir (head of state) of Kuwait.
