Sabine Pass Battleground State Park & Historic Site Location: 1.5 miles south of Sabine Pass on Dowling Road on the eastern border of the state. Facilities: Campsites with water and electricity hookups, primitive campsites, picnic areas, walking trail, boat ramp (é), historical monument, interpretive exhibit. Activities: Camping, boating, fishing, crabbing, hiking. Special Features: Park includes a monument in memory of Lieutenant Richard W. Dowling and his men, defenders of Sabine Pass for the Confederacy during the Civil War. Also located in the park are four concrete ammunition bunkers which were built during World War II.
