Sadykov, Abid Sadykovich 

Born Nov. 2 (15), 1913, in Tashkent. Soviet organic chemist. Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1972; corresponding member, 1966). Hero of Socialist Labor (1973). Member of the CPSU since 1946.

After graduating from Middle Asian University (now the University of Tashkent) in 1937, Sadykov taught at the Tashkent Textile Institute until 1939 and at Uzbek University from 1939 to 1941. Since 1941 he has worked at the University of Tashkent: in 1956 he became head of a subdepartment, and he was rector from 1958 to 1966. At the same time, he was also director of the Institute of Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Uzbek SSR from 1946 to 1950 and has been head of the academy’s department of bio-organic chemistry since 1973. He has been president of the academy since 1966.

Sadykov’s main work has been devoted to the elucidation of the structure and mechanisms of action of biologically active compounds. He has received four Orders of Lenin, three other orders, and several medals.
