Sagamihara (sägämē`härä), city (1990 pop. 531,542), Kanagawa prefecture, central Honshu, Japan. It is a suburb of Tokyo with metallurgical, food processing, and electrical appliance industries. The surrounding agricultural region produces rice, wheat, tobacco, and livestock.
Sagamihara 

a city in Japan, on central Honshu, in Kana-gawa Prefecture, on the Doshi River, which empties into Sa-gami Bay. Population, 309,000 (1972). Industry includes electrical machine building and motor-vehicle assembly. There is a center for atomic energy research. Other industries include food and textiles (primarily silk).
