Sagan-Ool, Oleg Karlamovich 

Born Dec. 19, 1912 (Jan. 1, 1913), in what is now Dzun-Khemchikskii Raion, Tuva ASSR; died Apr. 7, 1971, in Kyzyl. Soviet Tuva writer. Member of the CPSU from 1938.

Sagan-Ool studied at the Irkutsk Pedagogical Institute from 1935 to 1937 and graduated from the Higher Party School under the Central Committee of the CPSU in 1956. He published his first works in 1938. His works, including the novellas The Man from Baian-Tal (1963) and The Lucky Star (1965) and the plays Aspiration (1951), In One Village Soviet (1954), and I Shall Sing for You (1957), reflect the changing consciousness of the Tuva people during the Soviet period. Sagan-Ool is the author of The Irrepressible Ones (1967), a novel about the Tuva countryside, and Our Own People (1970), a novel about Tuva workers. He also translated works of A. S. Pushkin, M. Iu. Lermontov, M. Gorky, and other writers. Sagan-Ool was chairman of the administrative board of the Tuva Writers’ Union from 1944 to 1971.
