Sagiz

an urban-type settlement in Makatskii Raion, Gur’ev Oblast, Kazakh SSR. Located 30 km from the Sagiz River and 23 km from the Dossor railroad station (on the Oktiabr’sk-Gur’ev line). Petroleum is extracted in Sagiz.

Sagiz

a river in Aktiubinsk and Gur’ev oblasts, Kazakh SSR. It is 511 km long and drains an area of 19,400 sq km. The Sagiz originates on the Cisural Plateau and ends in the salt marshes of the Caspian Lowland. It is fed primarily by snow. In summer, the upper and lower courses dry up, and the river divides into several reaches having brackish water. At a distance of 31 km from its mouth, the Sagiz has a mean flow rate of approximately 2 cu m per sec. The river freezes in November, and the ice breaks up in late March or the first half of April. The Sagiz is used for irrigation.
