In east-central AL, east of Birmingham; organized Nov 20, 1818 (prior to statehood) from Shelby County. Name Origin: For Gen. Arthur Saint Clair (1736-1818), soldier, president of the Continental Congress (1787), and governor of the Northwest Territory (1787-1805).
