Saint Cloud

Saint Cloud, city (1990 pop. 48,812), seat of Stearns co. and also in Benton and Sherburne counties, central Minn., on the Mississippi River; inc. 1856. Agriculture (dairying, poultry, livestock, grain, soybeans, alfalfa) is important. Manufactures include paper products, machinery, concrete, foods and beverages, optical goods, medical equipment, and furniture. Granite has been quarried there since 1868, and granite finishing is still a leading industry. St. Cloud State Univ. is there.
