Chief exports are cacao, nutmeg, and mace. St. George's was the capital of the former British colony of the Windward Islands. Saint George'sTown (pop., 1991 est.: 5,000), capital of Grenada, in the West Indies. It lies on the island's southwestern coast, on a small peninsula. Founded by the French in 1650, it became the capital of the Windward Islands (1885–1958). Now a port, it exports cacao, nutmeg, mace, and bananas.
