Saint-Dié (săN-dyā), city (1990 pop. 23,670), Vosges dept., E France, in Lorraine Lorraine , Ger. Lothringen, region and former province, NE France, bordering in the N on Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany, in the E on Alsace, in the S on Franche-Comté, and in the W on Champagne.

The printing industry is also important. The city grew around a monastery founded in the 7th cent. In World War II the Germans destroyed many of Saint-Dié's landmarks and deported much of the population. The Cosmographiae introductio by Martin Waldseemüller, a geographic work that for the first time referred to the newly discovered continent as America, was printed in Saint-Dié in 1507.
