Sakharov, Andrei Dmitrievich
Born May 21, 1921, in Moscow. Soviet physicist. Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1953). Hero of Socialist Labor (1953, 1956, 1962). Sakharov graduated from Moscow State University in 1942. In 1945 he joined the staff of the P. N. Lebedev Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. His principal works are on theoretical physics. In recent years, Sakharov has not engaged in scientific work.
