Sal Steppe

a place located south of the lower courses of the Sal and Zapadnyi Manych rivers in Rostov Oblast, RSFSR.

The soils are Azov chernozems. The steppe is irrigated by the Zapadnyi Manych River and the upper Kagal’nik and Eia rivers. Much of it is tilled. A large grain sovkhoz called Gigant is located on the Sal’sk Steppe, as are the cities of Sal’sk and Zer-nograd.
