Salt March

a satyagraha campaign in India in 1930. From March 12 to April 5 of that year, Mahatma Gandhi and 79 of his followers traveled by foot from the city of Ahmadabad in the state of Gujarat in western India to the village of Dandi on the Arabian Sea. Here, for three weeks, they demonstrated against the colonial salt monopoly by evaporating salt from seawater. The march had propagandistic value and initiated a mass movement of civil disobedience against British colonial power in India in 1930.
