Saltychikha
(nickname; real name Dar’ia Nikolaevna Saltykova). Born March 1730; died Nov. 27 (Dec. 9), 1801 (according to some sources, 1800). Saltychikha was a landowner in Podol’sk District, Moscow Province. She was known for her extreme cruelty to serfs. A criminal investigation established that she had tortured to death more than 100 persons. In 1768 she was sentenced to death, but the sentence was commuted to life imprisonment in a convent prison. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
