Sambal

one of the peoples of the Philippines. They number about 150,000 (1973, estimate) and live along the southwestern coast of the isle of Luzon, interspersed to a significant degree with the Pampangan and Pangasinan. They are close to the Ta-galog in their language (which belongs to the Indonesian group) and material culture. Their religion is Catholicism. Their chief occupation is agriculture (cultivation of rice and fruit), but fishing also plays a large role. Handicrafts, especially weaving, are well developed. The Sambal are being intensively assimilated by neighboring peoples (the Ilocano in the north and Ta-galog in the south).

The SEC's civil lawsuit was filed in federal court in Los Angeles, naming Mozilo, Countrywide's former chief operating officer David Sambol, 49, and ex-chief financial officer Eric Sieracki, 52.
The SEC said that Mozilo along with former chief operating officer and president David Sambol and former chief financial officer Eric Sieracki "misled the market by falsely assuring investors that Countrywide was primarily a prime quality mortgage lender that had avoided the excesses of its competitors.
