Sampson, William (1764–1836) lawyer, Irish patriot; born in Londonderry, Ireland. Admitted to the Irish bar, he was exiled for treason, eventually arriving in New York (1806). An eloquent advocate of personal rights, he championed the movement to codify common law. Among his writings are a two-volume History of Ireland (1833). How to thank TFD for its existence?
