San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park Location: Hiking trailhead is 4 miles northwest of Gainesville on SR 232; equestrian/mountain bike trailhead is of US 441 just south of Alachua. Facilities: Hiking trails (southern two-thirds of the park); equestrian, mountain biking, and hiking trails (northern third of park). Activities: Hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, wildlife viewing. Special Features: Preserve has one of the few remaining mature forests in Florida. The limestone outcrops and extreme changes in elevation provide conditions for many species of hardwood trees. Bobcats, white-tailed deer, gray foxes, turkeys, and many species of songbirds make their homes in the preserve, which also features sinkholes, steephead springs, ponds, and small lakes.
