San José de Mayo
a city in southern Uruguay and capital of the department of San José; situated on the right bank of the San José River. Population, 27,500 (1963). San José de Mayo has a railroad station. It is the commercial center of an agricultural region noted for the raising of livestock and the cultivation of cereals and fruits. It also has milling enterprises.
