San Luis State Park & Wildlife Area Location: Take Highway 160 west from Walsenburg for 60 miles, then north on Highway 150 for 13.5 miles, left on Six Mile Lane for 8 miles, and north a short distance to park entrance. Facilities: 51 campsites, electrical hookups, laundry, showers, restrooms, 27 picnic sites, multi-use trails, boat ramp (é). Activities: Camping, boating, fishing, water-skiing, sailboarding, jet skiing, hiking, mountain biking, hunting (with restrictions), cross-country skiing/snowshoeing, ice skating, ice fishing, bird watching, interpretive programs. Special Features: Park is a unique desert area near Great Sand Dunes National Monument (see entry in national parks section), with a natural playa lake located amid rolling sand hills and flats. The park is also a wildlife area, with waterfowl, shorebirds, songbirds, and raptors as well as big game such as deer and elk. There's also a bison ranch nearby.
