Sanaga River

River, central Cameroon. It flows southwest into the Bight of Biafra opposite the island of Bioko. It is about 325 mi (525 km) long. Falls and rapids are found along much of its upper course. Dams and reservoirs regulate water flow and harness the river's hydroelectric power.

In terms of its energy supply, the country is fortunate in having massive hydro-electric potential, such as the dam on the Sanaga River which mostly furnishes power to the Edea aluminium smelter.
Moreover, Rio Tinto Alcan has signed a preliminary development agreement with the government of Cameroon for the development of a new aluminium smelter with production capacity of 400,000 tonnes a year, plus a 1,000MW hydro scheme at Songmbengue on the Sanaga River that can be used to supply electricity and water to the new plant.
