Sand Bar State Park Location: Northwest portion of the state between South Hero Island and the town of Milton on the mainland. Facilities: Picnic areas (é), snack bar, swimming beach, bathhouse, boat rentals, restrooms (é), play area. Activities: Boating, canoeing, kayaking, swimming. Special Features: Park takes its name from a natural sandbar between South Hero Island and the Vermont mainland. Over tens of thousands of years, sediment washing downstream from the Lamoille River sank to the bottom where the river emptied into the lake, eventually creating a marshland south and east of the park, and a sandbar to the west.
