sauger

Species (Stizostedion canadense) of pikeperch (family Percidae), carnivorous food and game fishes found in lakes and silty rivers of eastern North America. Saugers are slender and darkly mottled. They have two dorsal fins and rarely exceed a length of 12 in. (30 cm) or a weight of about 2 lbs (1 kg).

At Juno, the can't-miss bait is a croaker; at Lake Worth it's a sand perch, but right now even a lowly threadfin herring or dork jack is just as likely to get slurped up.
Shorebound fishermen on the catwalk under the adjacent Fort Pierce South Bridge also catch some snook, along with sand perch, snapper and flounder.
The sand perch was too big for the snook to swallow, and its dorsal fin's spine blocked the snook from spitting it out.
