Sandspit Point State Marine Park Location: 12 miles southeast of Seward, in Resurrection Bay at the northeast tip of Fox Island (Renard Island). Facilities: Undeveloped. Fresh water is not available. Activities: Primitive beach camping, kayaking, fishing. Special Features: Park includes steep, inaccessible uplands to the west and a half-mile long spit to the east, with spectacular panoramic views of Resurrection Bay and Eldorado Narrows. The north beach of the spit is fine sand, and the variety of marine life found in tide pools there, the ease of launching and landing, and suitability for beach camping make this a popular destination for kayakers. The southern beach on the spit is not recommended for landings due to its rocky nature and the often heavy surf. Address: c/o Kenai/PWS Area Office PO Box 1247 Soldotna, AK 99669 Phone: 907-262-5581; Web: www.dnr.state.ak.us/parks/units/pwssmp/smpsewd.htm Size: 560 acres. See other parks in Alaska.
