Sandviken (sänd`vē'kən), city (1990 pop. 25,360), Gävleborg co., S central Sweden. A planned industrial city, it has ironworks and steelworks (founded 1862) that produce high-quality steel.
Sandviken 

a city in Sweden, in the county of Gävleborg, on Stor Lake (Storsjön). Population, 43,500 (1976). It has a large metallurgical combine, primarily for high-quality alloy steel; there is a machine-building industry. Granite quarries are nearby.
