sinusoidal projection [‚sī·nə′sȯid·əl prə′jek·shən] (mapping) An equal-area map projection in which the parallels are equally spaced, straight lines drawn to scale, the central meridian is a straight line perpendicular to the equator along which the scale is true, and the other meridians are sine curves, concaving toward the central meridian.
