Santa Isabel: see Malabo Malabo , city (1997 est. pop. 50,000), capital of Equatorial Guinea, on Bioko island, in the Gulf of Guinea. It is the chief port and commercial center of Bioko. Fish processing is the city's main industry, and cacao and coffee are the leading exports.

Santa Isabel

 or Ysabel

Island, central Solomon Islands, western South Pacific Ocean. Located 50 mi (80 km) northwest of Guadalcanal, Santa Isabel is about 130 mi (209 km) long and 20 mi (32 km) wide at its widest point. Mount Marescot, rising 4,000 ft (1,219 m), is the highest peak. The island was under German control from 1886 to 1899; Rekata Bay on the northwestern coast was a Japanese military base during World War II. Coconut plantations and timber development are important to the economy.


Santa Isabel 

a volcanic island in the Pacific Ocean, in the British Solomon Islands possession. Area, 3,700 sq km. Population, 8,600 (1970). Elevations on Santa Isabel range to 2,545 m. There are coconut plantations. The main settlement is Kia, in the northern part of the island.
